Started to look for house, anything I need to be aware of?

Just contacted an agent referred by my colleague (he bought his house through the same company), from Suumo, or some information by agent, other than the new built one, some of them are just a piece of land, or only built 50% (incomplete), or used one. Coming weekend we’ll be going for the first visit, anything I need to be aware of?

And for the used house, some of them are just lived for 2-3 years which looks very new, but I am curious why people are moving out that quick, any thoughts?

  1. 1. You get what you pay for. If a brand new 100m2 house costs 50M in one place but 25M in another, there is probably a reason.

    2. I guess sometimes unexpected reasons come up. Loss of job, or got a better job elsewhere are all possible reasons for moving quickly.

  2. Lots of things to consider when buying a house, but to begin with, try walking around the neighborhood at different times of the day and weekends/weekdays to see what your neighbors are like.

I was very shocked to find a yakuza office a few hundred meters from my house after I moved in. (They’re no longer there though, thankfully)

  3. Termites and neighborhood noise. If any of the neighbors keep a dog tied up outside 24/7 expect a lot of barking.
