Should I drop out ?

I’m on my 5sem of bachelor’s and I need to pay only a sem fee for now which is around (60万) at the end of this month Jan31, things have got worst for me and my family past recent months there’s no way to take loans ( recently we took a big sum for a crisis that happened in family matters ) please don’t suggest try asking with relatives , Japan doesn’t provide educational loan to foreigners who live alone and also due to foreigners not returning the money back and leaving the country and I’m super depressed and anxious , please if can leave a genuine suggestion

  1. Do you have a work permit? Those 28 hours might give you the boost you need, no clue though because of lack of details.

  2. If you quit, would you be able to stay? Of not, do you want to stay? If your stay depends on you staying in education, and you want to stay, then you’d probably want to try to find any possibility to make that possible.

If you’re able to stay without studying, are you allowed to work? If so, it might be worth it to take a break in studying to bring in some money, if possible.

Have you explored options with scholarships/student support? Your school should be able to help you explore your options. There are usually options available for students with financial issues, not sure if that’s available in your situation, but it would be worth it to explore it.

  3. I’m sorry for what you are going through right now. I was in the same place few years ago at my last sem. First, I think you should talk with your professor, in my case was my mentor too. He helped me to talk with the school, and they agreed to let me pay it a month later than everyone else. Also ask if you can break it down into 2-3 months, I paid 20% at first, and the rest in 3 months (sometimes they’ll ask for evidence). And lastly, if you have quite a good grade, plus others activities, ask if there is any scholarship (within the uni and out of uni) that is available. My uni has its own scholarship fund but it was too late for me to register, but they recommend me to a local scholarship, with give me an allowance of 80000y per month.

I know it’s tough right now but you’ve come a long way. If you drop out now high chance that you will have to go back to your country. Good luck!

  4. I’d suggest you talking directly to the dean/vice dean and be blunt – you quit in a few weeks because you have no money for tuition.

If they are normal, they might give you some scholarship.

I did that during my PhD here because I had not enough money despite doing part-time jobs. I even asked them whether I can wash toilets for 50k/month.
In the end, another lab hired me and I got some better scholarships later.

Scholarships in Japan are all about how much your professor likes you and how much your professor is liked by others
