What is your favorite day trip from Sapporo?

Today’s question is: What is your favorite day trip from Sapporo?

Sapporo is the main city of Hokkaido. The point of entry for powder of Niseko and lavender fields. A big city surrounded by much of the wilderness. With Genghis Khan to come back to for comfort food.

But there are plenty possible day trips all year round – whether it’s whisky distilleries, flower fields or wilderness of Hokkaido.

Tell us what are your favorite day trips from Sapporo.

  1. Yoichi with Nikka Whisky Distillery Tour, former samurai house, Fisheries Museum, Space Dome is usually fun. In early May – sakura along Yoichi River is also fun.

In season (May): visiting Kamiyubetsu Tulip Park and Shibazakuratakinoue Park (moss phlox) can also be fun.

  2. On a whim, we visited Jozankei Farm, walked from Jozankei to the farm, which about 2 miles from town bus drop off from Sapporo. Was my first time, didn’t know how far it was, but took about 45 minutes of leisurely walking through beautiful woods, across a river, and some small places to stop at for refreshments.

At the farm you can pick fruits in season, when we were there it was cherries (early July). You pay admission but can pick and eat as much as you want, but extra to take seemed expensive but we thought it was typical japan fruit prices. We had lunch on patio overlooking the orchards and beautiful mountain scene. Some had ghengis khan grill – they brought over a grill with veggies and mutton meat, others not wanting to be ambitious had burgers or sandwiches.

Too tired to walk back we took taxi back to catch bus back to Sapporo from Jozankei.

We also visited Ainu cultural center, we wanted to meet Ainu people being Indigenous people ourselves but language gap was too difficult. Cultural center was very impressive.
