Working in the automotive industry as an engineer

Hello and thank you for reading : I’m an embedded systems engineer working in the automotive industry (Autosar and stuff) recently i’ve found an offer to work in basically a company i used to work to but in yokohama, while i’ve applied to it and am yet to receive an answer this made me reconsider a lot whether i feel ready to go all the way accross the world and i’d argue i feel ready, but i also may not get the offer i’m applying for : this offer is through the V.I.E program ( a French program to work abroad but under french working laws ) if i were not to get it i might try to apply directly to Japanese compagnies but that makes it quite a bit more scary for a few reasons.

My Japanese is yet to be professionally complete, i’d argue i’m around N3 level but that might be a stretch, continuing learning japanese is also a reason i want to go.

I’ve heard so many horror stories about how working in Japan is terrible but suposedly some compagnies have better “work conditions” ?

I really don’t know where to look for when it comes to positions open to foreigners.

I’m sorry if my questions are overdone or something i’m really new to this and it’s a tad bit scary to me, anyway thank you for your help !

  1. Japan’s a good place for embedded, but not always the most lucrative. Availability is bountiful, ranging from shit like ADAS in automotive to semiconductor manufacturing equipment — the latter of which most of my EE coworkers moved on to after our old workplace went down. Of course, this also means workplace culture is just as varied, but if you are any good, you will know to leverage the interview to assess whether your potential workplaces suck or not. After all, no one wants to work on an RTOS while their boss is over their shoulder watching them in RT.
