Goldfish Adoption Tokyo

In the summer my wife and daughter got four goldfish from the local matsuri. Their original plan was to just put the fish in a bucket, which is unfortunately very common in Japan. They are seen as disposable as they tend to only last a week in such conditions anyway.

I was not happy with that idea and bought a small beginner aquarium set from Amazon. I’m not knowledgeable about fish but they are still alive several months later. However it turns out after doing some research, goldfish actually need a lot of space as they grow quite large. The setup I have is not appropriate for them long term.

Is there anyone in the Tokyo area that is into the hobby and has the space and knowledge to look after them? Perhaps an aquarium shop will take them?

The fish are free of course.

  1. I can’t help but wanted to say kudos for being so kind. I enquired on here about potentially getting a fish and the knowledge from this group was invaluable to me deciding not to buy any as so much work is involved. All the best to you and your fish, who are no doubt lucky to have you <3

  2. I’ll PM you! My daughter also got goldfish from the local matsuri last summer, and recently we’ve been talking about getting a bigger tank and friends!
