Kobe University Exchange Study Abroad

Hi all

I was accepted to do a year of study abroad at Kobe University as an exchange through my US university. Admittedly, I was aiming for placement at either Osaka or Waseda and while I’m not disappointed at being accepted, I was looking forward to spending a year in a large city at a larger school. Note, I’ve been to Japan before.

I kinda just want you to give me reasons why I should or shouldn’t partake on this exchange. I am a film and media major but my minor is in Japanese, and I’m in my fourth semester of learning the language. This will possibly push my graduation back a year which is a concern of mine along with size and scope of the city/university.

I am also vegetarian, though I’m not so strict that I can’t make exceptions for the occasional fish or chicken-based broth. But vegetarian preferably.

Last, a personal concern is that my appearance does stand out a bit. No face tattoos or anything, but still. Again, I’ve been to Japan and am used to being a minority but I also am still reasonably afraid of feeling out of place. In Tokyo I found people wearing all kinds of fashionable styles and it was really cool, but in Kobe it seems more traditional.

So yeah. Any input helps, whether it be related to my personal concerns or your own experiences. Thanks
