Help! Our itinerary needs some guidance

My boyfriend and I are visiting Japan for the first time in February. We’ll be there for 9 days (including the day of his birthday!!) we began a rough draft of our itinerary but since it’s our first time we want to visit the best tourist spots and of course any place you guys recommend. It’s a really rough first draft, there’s things we want to do and even though it’s timed obviously we aren’t sticking to it super strictly (except for the reservation). If you suggest changing times or recommend certain days or anything really we are super open to recommendations! We just really need help because we want our first trip to Japan to be perfect 🙂

This is what our rough draft looks like so far:

9:30pm-11:00pm Senso-ji Temple
11:45pm-? Explore nightlife either in Shinjuku or Shibuya

Second day:

Fifth day:

  1. Main suggestion: check opening/closing hours for places you plan to visit.

    Some suggestions to investigate:

    – Tokyo Tower (gives a different perspective than Skytree)

    – Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku (free observation deck)

    – There’s a free observation deck in Shibuya but I don’t know where

    – Shibuya has some new buildings to explore (newer than when I last went, so I don’t know exactly where they are but they look great – one has escalator with great views of the surrounding city)

    – Meiji Shrine in Harujuku and then walk through Harajuku and Shibuya

    – Odaiba – Diver City, the ferris wheel (check operating hours) and the Unicorn Gundam statue

    re: arrival day

Best to check the opening hours of Tokyo Skytree. It might close around 9pm.

    re: 2nd Day

Check the closing time for Shinjuku Gyo-en (National Garden). I think gates close around 4pm, anyone inside must exit by 5pm. It’s been a while since I last went, so details may have changed. It is a pleasant visit.

    re: 4th Day

Would you like a nice dinner? What’s your price range? We went to Gomei Akita Beef Teppanyaki in Ginza but it’s very pricey ($250Aud pp back in 2017 – and that was one of the cheaper menu options when we went; the hotel booked it for us as well). It was amazing quality, though, and a wonderful experience. We knew we wanted to do something like this prior to travelling and had budgeted for it.

Or, Tokyo Tower and then nearby Roppongi for dinner. Tokyo Tower has a restaurant but I haven’t dined there so can’t give information on that.

    re: 5th Day

Maybe Imperial Palace East Gardens and also Tokyo Station area. Both very pleasant. This part of Tokyo is very much a business district but it is pleasant to walk around.

Maybe include Skytree (if you can’t get there on your arrival day).
