Foreigner married to a Japanese, been asking for divorce but the Japanese spouse doesn’t want to give it. Now in a relationship with another person, what are the possible backlash? What to do?
Additional informations: living here and have kids and Japanese spouse knows about the affair.

Is that an extramarital affair or an open marriage? I guess one thing to worry about is if the foreigner is in japan on a spousal visa and his wife doesn’t like whats going on she could prevent Visa renewal.
As far as I know, it is fairly easy to get divorced in Japan.
Have you tried to go to the city hall to do it all on your side ?
She can sue you both and get money. Later if you apply for PR or citizenship, they’ll probably look at it extensively. Your new partner’s family and friends might take negative opinion of you both. Better you reach agreement with your wife.
Get PR first if you don’t already.
Sue the partner as well.
Get a lawyer for divorce if she’s not willing to budge.
