Does it matter whether the source of income is mostly from inside Japan or not for PR holders? Or is that only for temporary visa holders?
I came from a developing country, and the field I’m in (illustration, concept art, etc) definitely has more opportunities here than back home. Considering the country where you graduate in is the most possible one to give you a work visa, I definitely want to work here first after graduating. But to be honest, I’m more to the realistic side and I don’t idealize Japan’s art/entertainment industry. Asked this question because I want a long term plan in case Japan’s work life is not for me. In that case, I might want to aim for foreign clients or illustration agency after I can secure a PR.
For background, I’ve been in Japan for around 1 and a half year, currently a 1st year college student (å°‚é–€å¦æ ¡). Assuming I’ll go by the route of 5 years on a student visa (1yr 日本語å¦æ ¡ + 2yrå°‚é–€å¦æ ¡ + 2yr 大å¦) I would need to work for a minimum of 5 years+ after uni to get PR. This is quite a long term thing to ask, but the direction of my portfolio will most likely change depending on which kind of clients I’m aiming for. So I feel like it’s just better to know from now.

People with PR can do whatever they want. If you’re doing freelance work, just make sure you accurately report your income and pay your taxes on time.
