Itinerary: First time trip to Japan April 29 – 6 May 2023

Hi guys! Will be heading to Japan for the period that the title has stated and would could really use some help with some of the aspects of the trip planning that I am unsure of 🙂

A few of the items that I would really like to experience in this trip are: ?Knife making, Knife shapening, Tour of knife factories, Good and, if possible, cheap Omakase, Places with nice nature sceneries.

The current rough plan is as below:

***29 April***

* Reach Osaka Kansai International Airport in the afternoon
* Walk around Osaka (Explore must see places like Dotonbori etc.)
* Also thinking of visiting Doguyasuj as I saw a video stating that it is the cutlery street in Osaka

***30 April***

* Day trip to Echizen to visit Ryusen Hamono knife shop/factory
* Walk around the area to visit the other knife shops/factories

***1 May***

* Day trip to Sakai
* Visit local knife makers workshop (I have read posts that this is possible)
* Knife museum

***2 May***

* Day trip to Kyoto
* Bamboo Forest
* Fushimi Inari Taisha

***3 May***

* Head to Tokyo by Shinkansen, but making a stop in Seki city as it seems to be in the middle of both Tokyo and Osaka
* Planning to visit the G. Sakai Knife Musuem, Feather Razor Museum and the Seki traditional swordsmith museum (open to suggestions for what other places that are worth to visit in the area)
* Check in and dinner after reaching tokyo

***4 May***

* Visit Asakusa area
* Visit Akihabara

***5 May***

* ***Any suggestions are welcomed, hopefully things that are not as touristy!***

***6 May***

* Buffer for things that were missed the past 2 days
* Flight back in the evening.

Thank you for reading this far if you did! Basically have a few things that are keeping me awake at night…

1. Will the JR pass be worth it for me? I think it most likely will be, but I am also not sure if the trains that I would need to take for the above itinerary to happen are included in the JR pass. Would pairing the JR pass with a Suica card be sufficient for my itinerary?
2. Are the day trips from Osaka worth/feasible as most of them seem to be 3h+ travelling time. I do not mind waking up early and I do not mind travelling for 3h+ but just wanted to get some other opinions as well!
3. Recommendations for food, especially in the places where I will be having day trips (e.g. Echizen, Sakai etc.)
4. Anything else knife related is welcomed as well!

Thank you for your help!!!! 🙂
