I’m moving to Tokyo in 10 days from southern California, indefinitely, and I’m not quite sure what things I’m going to miss. Is anyone living in Japan who moved from SoCal missing something they didn’t expect that they wouldn’t find in Japan? On the same note, trying to find some stuff to bring to my friends who live there that is uniquely Californian. (God I wish I could just take an entire In-n-Out store with me…)
I got banned from /r/japanlife for this post, so thought I’d ask here instead.
I’ve heard so far that toothpaste with fluoride, floss, and deodorant are big ones for personal use. Looking for things I could possibly take to my new company as a “hello” gift as well as for my friends in Japan who are helping me with the move/helped me through my interviews/friends I met in Cali who are back in Tokyo now.

Moved from SoCal over ten years ago, but there’s not really nothing I can think of (that makes sense) or that you haven’t already covered. Nowadays you can probably get most things over here, especially through Amazon.
Things I miss now: Good Mexican food, sourdough bread, good CA wines (that don’t cost an arm and a leg).
Could try See’s Candies as a hello gift; haven’t seen those over here. Ghirardelli chocolate squares are good too.
Most things are readily available on Amazon Japan or Amazon US with international shipping. Toothpaste and deodorant is easy to pack several months supply and then order in bulk from America when low if you can’t find something decent locally.
The only thing I really miss is easy access to ingredients for Mexican food. Like Corn tortillas are non-existent here. It’s really the only thing I ask for when people visit. Oh also big bottles of Tylenol and ibuprofen as they only sell small super expensive packs at most stores here, but I believe Costco may have bigger bottles.
Medicinal cannabis.
