If a card on Anki shows ” 思う” and then shows the answer with a sentence that says “**思います** **”** What was the point of showing me the “う” if its never going to be used?
Because 思う is the dictionary form. 思います is a specific conjugation of the verb. If you learn how verb conjugations work (any grammar guide or textbook should cover this) then you shouldn’t have any problem with this. Most words (aside specific expressions) are listed in the dictionary in their dictionary form, just like in English. If you look up the verb “to eat” in English in the dictionary you will see “Eat”, not “Ate” or “Eaten”.

Just to be clear, 思う as a conjugation/form **will** be used all the time in Japanese, it’s not like it’s not going to be used.

You need to study grammar as well as vocab man. This type of conjugation is one of the very first things you learn in any sort of grammar guide/textbook. Check out The Kim’s Guide or if you have some money to spare get Genki 1.
