What is your favorite food/drink cafe in Japan?

Today’s question is: What is your favorite food/drink cafe in Japan?

When you walk through cozy districts of Tokyo, watch a Japanese movie – one things stands out – there is always a cafe around.

Of course, they are very different from Italian or Turkish cafes, or from the imported coffee chains such as Starbucks and Tully’s.

So tell us, what is your favorite cafe in Japan, or what you enjoy about Japanese coffee culture.

  1. Favorite cafes for coffee in Tokyo, basically in order:

    * Glitch – favorite latte in the whole world, and I drink _a lot_ of coffee, totally worth the walk to what is essentially the “middle of nowhere” in Tokyo.
    * Chatei Hatou – the chiffon cafe is to die for, perfect for their charcoal-roasted beans.
    * Koffee Mameya Kakeru – the new cafe, not the bean shop, so it’s actually a place you can sit and enjoy in now.
    * Reissue – coffee is average, but the 2D and 3D latte artists are incredible, totally worth it for a little fun.

Favorite cafes for coffee in Osaka:

    * Takamura – overall great coffee with upstairs seating that looks over the shop.
    * Lilo Kissa – both Lilo locations are great, but this one has more seating and food.
    * All Day Coffee – cute, hip little coffee bar that’s my go-to near Osaka Station.
    * Brooklyn Roasting Company Kitahama – this is the one with the outdoor patio on the river, and it’s a great place to relax.

I tried to pick places that have both great coffee _and_ seating, but there are also a million great specialty coffee stands that are tiny.

  2. When I was in Tokyo 7 years ago, I loved the all-you-can-eat cookie café “Aunt Stella”.
Their earl grey cookies were unbelievably delicious!

I saw on Google maps that their location has changed and I don’t know if they still have all-you-can-eat, but it might be something to try out for cookie-lovers!
