I jumped from Mitsubishi to Hitachi for a 30%+ increase.
Two years later, I jumped back to Mitsubishi from Hitachi for a 10% salary increase **+** a *guaranteed*, 20-day, fully-paid repatriation vacation (flights, per diem, etc).
>what did you do to achieve it?
I’m the only human in the world who understands their robots’ spaghetti code and speaks rude/faux Japanese on the factory floor. {It also helps that I’m *maybe* the best, old-school machinist in the 3,000 person factory along with having post grad degrees.}
Two years of medical researcher at ¥2000/hr including benefits to medical consultant at ¥5500/hr including benefits. I made good connections I guess.
First promotion – approx. an extra 100 yen an hour, but it’s a monthly salary. Second promotion – an extra 60,000yen to my monthly salary. Third promotion – a bit more than 60,000yen to my monthly salary.
For me, the timing is extremely lucky. I joined the company from the bottom (part-timer), and when there were not a lot of people. It was a place that I could show my skills and excel at – I made my company a lot of money with the project that I’ve worked; I’ve made connections in the company. Then I got promoted 3 times within a year.. which is incredibly lucky. With this third promotion, I am a 正社員.
