I found a Tanuki (I think) near my dorm. It’s tail seems to have bitten off and it looks like a child. Is there any organization I can contact? Like animal rescue? I don’t want to call animal control because I’m afraid they would just kill it
Take it to a veterinarian and drop it off. I have a veterinarian friend and he always takes in wounded/lost tanuki, as well as other wild animals. He makes sure the animal is okay and then calls the proper government office from there.
I wish I could answer your question.
I once saw an injured Tanuki on the road which had been apparently hit by a car. This was maybe 10 pm. Somewhat sadly, it was still alive. I was sorry for the Tanuki, but more concerned that children might get bitten by it in the morning on their way to school.
I did not want to contact the police because I have had too many bad experiences with them in the past. So I tried knocking on doors in the neighborhood. No one answered except a teenager who was not fit to deal with it. But his grandfather came home soon after and he tried to find an animal shelter but with no luck. So he called the police.
I tried to leave but he nicely requested I stay. Naturally the police started asking me a ton of irrelevant questions, basically trying to pin it all on me, as the Tankuki lay there suffering. The cops even started scanning my car for blood or damage.
In the end those goons finally decided I had nothing to do with it. They might have been convinced when I told them if I had hit the tanuki, I would have kept driving because I know how stupid and unfair police are and yes, this is how I talk to them. So I left without knowing what happened to the Tanuki.
It’s too late, you already brought it in. Now you have to nurse it back to health and raise it as one of your own.
Where are you?
You are now a clan of two, you must nurse the foundling to full health and return him to his kind.
I’ve got a tanuki rescuer standing by to help. I sent you a PM please answer.
