Unable to transfer money to US using Wise

I’ve tried several times using different accounts and different amounts of money, nothing worked. Wise would receive the Yen I sent to their account, but then the transfer to Bank of America would fail. There’s no detail as to why.

I heard that this might be do to me registering my Wise account using Japanese identification, so I might consider redoing that.

Yucho told I’d need to make a new account to make an international transfer, which would take some time, and I’ve also heard their international transfers won’t go through. Mainly I’d just like to get my money back in the US. Really feel like I’m banging my head into a wall here.

  1. What happened to your yen afterwards? Is it sitting in your wise account under yen, or was it returned to your JP account?

You can try it as a two step process. Select to add the yen to your account, and compete it by bank transfer. Then convert it to USD and send it to BOA.

If you have not already, I’d suggest contacting their support. They are very responsive in my experience.

  2. 1. Get your yens into your Wise account.
    2. Tap your Yens and use Convert to change your yens into dollars within the Wise app.
    3. Tap your new dollars and use Send, Myself, then put in your bank details and have wise transfer it locally from a bank in the US. (Assuming you’re just sending your own money to yourself)

I think this is how it works but I haven’t had to send money directly to a bank in a long time. I usually just put yen into my Wise account, convert the money in the app, and spend it with the card.

Edit: I should add that wise is frustratingly restricted if from Japan. No apple wallet support, a low limit on how much of each currency you can hold, etc. I’m in Europe now and I’m considering opening a European-based Resolut account just so I have a place to deposit paychecks.

    Edit 2: r/transferwiser

  3. Are you remembering to change your name on the furikomi screen from your actual name to the P-Number? I forgot to do that once and my money got stuck in limbo for a while.

  4. >which would take some time

Seems it’s taking time already do just do this? Or use any other bank?
