Tax returns at the Fiscal year end?

I moved to Japan from India around 3 months ago and I am learning so many things. I was under the impression that I’ve gathered all the understanding I needed, but no.

I will be paying my tax for the first time and I am not familiar with the tax filing process. This is my understanding so far after reading the threads in Wiki and doing some google-ing.

– My employer deducts tax from my monthly salary.
– I have to pay residence tax + Pension/Insuarance tax etc.
– I have to file a “return” at the end of fiscal year.

I do not understand the entire tax process thought. So, I hope someone could shed some light on this because the threads linked in wiki don’t explain the process. They just explain the various types of taxes. Still thankful to the people for explaining that.

Anyways, what I want to understand is the process of tax.
Let’s say a person I moved to Japan a few months ago and I am a full time employee. And my employer automatically deducts tax from my monthly salary. This makes sense because it’ll be deducted roughly based on my annual income.

But, do I have to file a return at the end of Fiscal year even though the tax has been deducted from my salary?

And when and how are these extra type of taxes paid? like the residence tax and pension tax etc.?

And how easy or difficult is this process of filing a return by myself? Are there any tax consultants who provide the service of filing the return?

It would be great if someone can explain this like I am 5. (I feel like I am 5 🙁

  1. If your employer withholding your tax and you don’t have another income or eligible deduction. then there is no need to file tax return. this is all done on their side. if your employer also pays for city tax on your behalf which usually they do, then you won’t receive slips from city either. insurance likewise.

Filing and paying national tax is usually by 3/15 . there were covid years where that date was pushed further.
