The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare will establish a new Women’s Support Office in April to provide more extensive support for women facing difficulties. Issues surrounding women, such as domestic violence (DV), sexual abuse and poverty, are becoming increasingly complex. The aim is to establish a system that will help solve problems and promote self-reliance, based on the actual situation.
Currently, three officials from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s Department for Children and Families play a central role in dealing with issues such as women in single-parent families suffering from poverty. Meanwhile, an increasing number of young people are being sexually exploited, such as being forced to appear in adult videos.
For this reason, a Women’s Support Office was established in April in the Department of Social Affairs and Support, which is responsible for social welfare, to deal with the problem in a comprehensive manner. Ten full-time staff are to be appointed to the office.
