致す usage

こんにちは皆さん、

I would like to enquire about the usage of 致す (いたす = to do, but in a humbly manner): When is it used? Can we use it in place of する for all する verbs? What about やる, is it the same?

Thanks in advance!

  1. やる would be the opposite of いたす in a way as it is very crude whereas いたす is extremely formal. you can replace any する with いたす as long as you are the subject of the action ex: 〇〇をお渡しいたします (I will give you〇〇) is ok but 〇〇が故障いたします(〇〇 is broken) is not ok

it is only used in formal contexts like meetings, business interactions, mails, customer service, etc
