Since I plan on applying for university in Japan in about 2025 I was wondering about the CoE proof of funding as I don’t quite understand.

I most likely will have funding of about 20000€ or more when I apply for university. For the CoE or Student Visa will I be required to show proof of funding for all 4 years as I would attend university for that long or is it only for 1 year and I’d have to reapply for the CoE/Student Visa annually? I’d apply for a national university so the tuitions aren’t that high compared to private universities.

Yes. While it’s *possible* that you will get a >1-year student visa as a university student, in all likelihood you’ll end up with 4x 1-years visas.
You won’t be required to go through the whole CoE process again, but you *will* be required to show the same proof of financial support every time you renew.
