How to properly use kanji

I recently started learning Japanese and I want to start introducing myself to kanji. I looked over some kanji using an app and noticed how one kanji could have multiple meanings and uses. How would I be able to know which meaning of that kanji to use in certain sentence? Do I just memorize it? Is there any tricks to easily learning how to properly use kanji in sentences? Any comment is appreciated.

  1. Basically yes, you just memorize them on a case-by-case basis. You use them in sentences the way native Japanese speakers/writers use them in sentences. It’s not the most satisfying answer when facing something that looks so daunting at this stage, but it’s the best approach for now!
