First up, my apologies, I’ve seen similar threads like this recently. But my Japanese is crap and I’m posting this here before I have to get in touch with my non English speaking landlord.
Long story short, my electric bill has been around 10,500yen the last few months.
Here are my average electricity usages per day:
hotpot 10mins
blender 30secs
custom desktop pc w/ medium size screen 3hrs (weekend: 7 hours)
fridge obviously always on
charging phone 30mins

Last year my bills were half this much, and I had a Nitori electric heater that I used constantly as I worked from home. I HAVNT used this device for the past couple of months.

I know prices have risen recently but this seems ridiculous. Everyone I know seems to be paying half this much. I’d like reddit’s opinion if this seems just due to price hikes or whether something else might be wrong. Thanks a ton in advance, this is really stressing me out. Any comments are appreciated, cheers.

Sounds about right.10,000 is quite low. Most people are paying 15,000 – 25,000 or even more.
On my case I pay only 6,000, but I only use 150KW.Before the price hike, I used to pay around 3000 ~ 4000.Just look in your bill and see how much KW you’re using per month.
Energy is not cheap now.
1 KW is costing almost 50yen now.
Just wait till June, the cost might increase by 30~45% if the government approves it.
Most of us are in the same boat, my bill has increased by around 25% compared to last year and most of our neighbours and acquaintances are making the same complaint.
I know a lady who says she paid about 20,000 yen for electric last year for the month of December. She says this year it was more like 45,000 yen.
I have heard that the basic fee went up. But I think usage fees have also gone up.
There is a price to be paid for leveling sanctions against major oil suppliers. But I think like other inflation, there is simple price gouging happening too, since people will just figure its all the price of sanctions. I don’t think so. Capitalsim is a festival of opportunistic bastards.
My bill is a pretty stable 10, 000 yen now, but I have taken measures that SHOULD have lowered my bill. One thing I did was put my microwave ovens on a power bar and shut them off from the power when not in use with the flick of a switch. Other things are good to disconnect too, especially TVs.
lol. You list every component but the one actually costing the bulk is hidden away from it.
It’s your electric heater.
Use your aircon instead and/or reduce the temperature.
