I’ve been roped into attending a Japanese Funeral for my wife’s dead uncle, by myself. My wife is currently in the hospital. Nothing serious. She is expecting.

For starter: black suit and black tie no patterns. Prepare to pick bones with hashi. You hold it with another person.
Been a while since my last funeral so I’m not sure if they still do koden/condolence money, but if so: don’t use new bills (crumple them up, in fact) and (I *think*) they go face-down in the envelope.
Basically the opposite rules to giving wedding money.
