I spent nearly 3 weeks in America from December 22 to January 10. I just received the electric bill from 大阪ガス and i am literally speechless.
The dates for the meter reading are 12/24-1/26. And they’re saying I used 547kwh.
My last 2 electric bills have put me around ~150-180kwh.
I wasn’t even in the country for half the time, and I unplugged damn near everything but the fridge.
Since returned to Japan, I have stuck mainly to lamps for light and for heat: a space heater and electric blanket. My AC unit has been off for months and my desktop PC largely stays off.
What could have possibly used so much power the 2 weeks I’ve actually been USING electricity? Could this be a fluke of some sort?
I’m looking into contacting 大阪ガス about it but I’d like to know if anyone else has had similar experiences, particularly during winter.

Does Osaka Gas have a daily reading on their site or something? My service (Tepco) has it.
Edit: I googled and it seems like you do have a [電機デイリーリポート->日毎](https://www.osakagas.co.jp/sp/my-page/howto/index.html), I’d check that
Your space heater and electric blanket is what killed you. Space heaters, especially those toasters, cost a hell of a lot more money than the A/C heater.
On the one hand winter bills will rise and basic service fees have risen.
On the other companies are clearly taking advantage of our resignation to scam us, and those damn smart meters they made us all take a few years ago are clearly part of the fix.
Man! I experienced similar thing, I was out of Japan early December till now, unplug everything except wifi router (if I remember correctly), but recently just found out I was billed 9k, for January, I checked online it said I used around 180kWh
here’s the link me asking in other thread, some pointed out I might have forgot the fridge.
