Has anyone worked for Fifth Wings?

I submitted an application for a preschool English teaching position with Fifth Wings. They are a relatively small company from what I have found along with a mixed bag of personal experiences.

The recruiter stated in the e-mail that if I were in Japan (currently) they would *hire me immediately*. (I have a BA in English, a CELTA Level 5 certification, and experience teaching kindergarten students in the US.)

My question lies with the legitimacy of this company. I would appreciate any feedback from all of you. (Financial, Experience, Living, Transportation, etc.)

Thanks in advance!

  1. Sounds like a typical low pay migrant worker job with zero chances of ever earning more.

Kindergarten in Japan is not mandatory. They are daycare. Any company willing to hire illiterate, uncertified migrants isn’t going to have good working conditions. No company in the “industry” is legitimate, legit education comes from government funded public schools and non-profit private schools. No offense but your qualifications don’t count for anything in Japan. If you want to last here, get some real teaching qualifications.

  2. If you’re going to Ashikaga, it’s a nice little city. Had a great time there.

As for the kindergarten, I find it interesting that they have so many remote locations (nowhere close to each other). Other than that, seems pretty run-of-the-mill. I would curb your expectations, but you can maybe get a little more than the average teacher there, maybe.

Other than that, probably not too bad to get your foot in the country. Just hold on to your passport and residence card. Under no circumstance are they to hold on to it.
