Weekly Praise Thread – 27 January 2023

It’s that time of the week again. Please boast and share about the good things that have happened to you this past week!

  1. We almost had a big event we have planned for march get torpedoed, but a friend who I haven’t done a good job keeping in touch with came through and saved the day.

  2. Thank you to the Yuta that apparently yelled at my spouse a good bit for wanting to divorce, and convinced me spouse to stay with me

  3. Praise be to the box hair dye I bought that had the exact colour I wanted, which I have not seen here yet so that was a nice find. And inside it even had a plastic sheet with a hole in to put your head through so it protected your shoulders and clothes from drips AND had those little plastic ear caps too! I’m used to only getting gloves and that’s it. It was a nice little surprise.

  4. It’s still cold and rainy but at least it’s Friday. Just a little bit more..!

This will be the first weekend in a while where I don’t have an appointment of some kind, so I can be lazy all I want. Though I might go and treat myself since it’s my birthday on Sunday..

  5. Umbrella broke on Tuesday. Ordered a new one on Wednesday. Got it on Thursday. I like next day deliveries.

  6. Since winter started, I’ve been seeing tons of posts by people complaining about their painful, itchy, perpetually dry skin… and while I feel bad for them, as someone with *extremely* oily skin, I’ve been loving it lately! My skin has never looked better— smaller pores, less acne. Very much dreading the return of the humidity in spring/summer, though.

  7. Let’s see, tho very cold (a 25year record low, and no hot water for a couple days–okay now), and also snowy…

…we (amazingly!?) had our 35th anniversary earlier this week.

  8. When it gets cold like this, and with the rising energy costs, I’m really glad we were able to build a well-insulated house.

The year previous to building our house, we were in a rickety old place that didn’t even have air conditioning. It would’ve been awful.

  9. The Macpac down jacket I bought back in the old country is really doing the job. Wind and snow cycling home the other night and my body didn’t feel a thing. My old man, an avid bushwalker, always told me “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing”. That rang true the other night.

And at the in-law’s last night, baby who is usually a grizzled old man from 9pm – 1am slept soundly wrapped in a blanket in my arms. The highlight of my day. I could relax and actually talk to my wife.

  10. Passed N2. Now moving the goal post to N1.

Work-wise, I changed dept starting this year and my new dept head seems to be a nice and reasonable guy. We’re a team of 3 people and things have been quite smooth these days. So I might stay here longer despite having some not nice colleagues in another dept.

  11. Classes are finished for the academic year, thank you. I hope I remember how to tie a necktie in April.
