Can someone explain this book ending to me?

Its a free online book: https://tadoku.org/japanese/book/5995/

What I don’t understand is that the very end when he says that he forgot his book bag, the next picture shows him writing something (which I can’t read) and then after that he says it’s okay and his mother looks pleased with him. I don’t get it. What was he writing and what made things suddenly okay? It looks like he had his book bag in that last picture. Does that mean that he found it? What the heck does any of this have to do with him writing something down?

I’m sure I am trying to overthink this very simple book but it’s driving me crazy that I don’t get what is going on at the end and why it’s supposed to be funny.

  1. He wrote a memo of what to take to school on a given day including all the items introduced in the story.

月、木、金 are abbreviations of the days of the week: 月曜日、木曜日、金曜日
The last part says what to bring to school every day:
    まいにち (毎日)ー> everyday
きょうかし けしごむ (教科書 消しゴム) ー> textbook, gum eraser
