Is a housewife really「無職」= unemployed? – Occupations in Japanese

When a housewife fills out a form she can usually write 「主婦」under occupation, and a pensioner can write 「年金生活者」. However, officially they both seem to be classified as 「無職」, at least according to the term used in news reports.

My question is, where can I find an “official” classification of occupations in Japanese? When you submit a list of people to the government (such as for tax or family registration purposes), would I have to re-classify the housewife and the pensioner as 「無職」?

よろしければ、ご回答は日本語でも大丈夫です。
