Good place to live near Tokyo?

I’ve been in Japan forover a decade, but I’ve only been in Tokyo for a few years, so I don’t know the Tokyo area so well. My girlfriend and I are looking to combine our offices, so we’re looking for a place with plenty of space so we could both work from home. Ideally the place would be within 1 hour of Tokyo by train, since we both work here, and it would be nice to have some kind of nature around it.

We’re looking to pay up to 250,000 a month, maybe 300,000 a month if the place is nice. Ideally it would be 100 sqm or above. Our place now is central Tokyo and 75sqm, and with her office 100 would be about right.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

  1. I’m guessing you’re looking for at least a 3LDK then? A shared bedroom and two extra “office” rooms.

Within 1 hour of where in Tokyo? Tokyo Station?

  2. You might consider *Tsukuba*, which is a vibrant little community here in Southern *Ibaraki*.

Just about an hour away from *Akihabara* on the TX (Tsukuba Express).

  3. How about the area around Nerima Station? It’s super convenient access to pretty much anywhere in Tokyo and less than 10 minutes to Ikebukuro. (Seibu Ikebukuro, Toyoko, Fukutoshin, Oedo, and Yurakucho lines all run through there) There are lots of grocery stores, a uniqlo, and some nice restaurants. I loved living there. For that price range you could find something very nice.

  4. Try the Asakusa line up by the Skytree or Hikifune. There is an interesting variety of rental properties up there, reasonably priced for the size. And the area has a lot of new shops and restaurants.

As far a nature goes, the Mukojima Hyakkaen Gardens are nice, if you can find a place nearby.

  5. How about going South to Yokohama? I pay around 250,000 for a 4LDK there. From my place, it takes me only 30-ish mins to reach Tamachi station. You can also get to Shibuya/Shinjuku in 30~40 mins via the Shonan Shinjuku line.

There are plenty of things to do around Yokohama station.
It’s also not far from the beach in Shona. And Kamakura is right around the corner.

  6. maybe check out Tachikawa. you have everything you need..

you have great nature in the showa kinen park or you go further west..

chuo line into tokyo around 30-45 min..
