Spouse is Yonsei and her family lives in Japan, is there any way I can live in Japan with them as well?

My situation is a bit specific, but basically my spouse is Yonsei and her family currently lives in Japan, as far as I know she can live there comfortably (she lived there for a year) but I couldn’t find a way for me to go as well.

What does she need for me to get some kind of visa and be able to live in Japan through her? Is my only possibility the work visa? Is there a spouse visa if she’s Yonsei? What if she gets permanent residency?

I couldn’t find anything regarding that in the sub, but apologies if it already exists.

Any insights is appreciated.

Also, I’ll be visiting Japan in July as a tourist, can I change my tourist visa to a working visa while I’m there if I find a job?

Just so we’re clear on terminology: Your spouse is the grandchild of a Japanese citizen? Assuming that’s the case, then yes, you have a (fairly) easy path to a visa.

As a third-generation descendent (by immigration terminology) your spouse can apply for a spouse visa for you. They will need to have a status of residence > 1 year, and there will be some financial vetting, but it’s totally doable.

No. You’re not allowed to change from a tourist visa to a working visa in Japan.
