throwing out garbage requires birthday?

My city doesn’t handle computer monitors for 粗大ごみ so I was directed to [https://www.renet.jp/](https://www.renet.jp/)

When you go through the application process, the page asks for your address / name / phone / email (so far so good) and… birthday (huh?).

生年月日: \_\_年\_\_月\_\_日

ご本人様確認時等に使用させていただきます。

Does this not seem like a weird thing to ask when collecting garbage? The fact that they go out of their way to explain why they’re collecting birthdays makes it even weirder, especially since they already have your address / name / phone / email for “ご本人様確認”.

The guy who comes to your house is just some guy from Sagawa, so it’s not like they’re even checking if the information is true.
