I know lots of people here use Wise (formerly TransferWise) to send money back home. Anyone use the smartphone app? What is its functionality? Is it handy to have? Can you do anything with it other than just schedule international transfers from your phone?
I might be showing my age here, but I remember shinkansen tickets always being checked on the train itself, even for reserved seats.
I know at some point they stopped for reserved seats but figured at least for unreserved it was still happening; however, yesterday my first train was delayed by 5 minutes just before entering the station, so I missed the train and had to sit in the non-reserved seats, where they didn’t check.
Is checking on the shinkansen just not happening now?

We are preparing to rent our house out and have been told by the real estate agent that we need a special professional house cleaning service to come before the new tenant moves in — and I have also heard that this service could be north of 100,000 yen, which makes no sense, because it is an empty house that has already been cleaned (by us). Requesting recommendations for good clinics in central Tokyo. Ueno-Shimbashi on Yamanote is ideal but within Yamanote loop is ok as well.
1. Beauty clinic that specialize in mole / lesion removal. If the mole appears to be dangerous and advised to remove, is it covered by insurance? About how much does it cost?

So I just realized I worked illegally a few years back. Got a job at a company that sponsored my change of status from student to humanities. However, they wanted to do onboarding while my change of status was being processed with the understanding that I wouldn’t start getting paid until I get my residence card. Stupidly, I agreed. Long story short, they paid me and dumbass me only just now realized how problematic that was – I have worked illegally for about three weeks. That was some years ago and I’ve successfully renewed my status of residence twice since then. However, I’m now quitting and it’s not quite amicable. The HR bucho hasn’t exactly threatened to get me in trouble for it and there’s no guarantee she actually realizes she could, but I’m still worried. They do have records of me being there those three weeks.
So, the question is, if someone in the company wanted to mess with my status of residence, is there a way they could report those three weeks of illegal work to immigration without also getting the company itself in trouble?
I am switching to Rakuten mobile and unfortunately I cannot keep my number (GTN). Does anyone here have an experience in the procedures that I need to do after getting a new number? Which agencies (e.g. residence card, my number card, bank) should I update and how?
