Is this normal?

Is this normal?

  1. The fact that they stated that ‘you won’t get overworked’ has me worried. Also, toilet training and changing diapers? And you are only teaching for 2-3 hours….

  2. For a Japanese international preschool, that is fairly normal.

If you are applying for a K-12 school, that would be either crazy or a special needs school.

  3. Normal for preschool or nursery school. The children don’t do a lot of learning. Just playing and some guided activities. The rest of your time is spent caretaking.

  4. I think you should expect that they are going to ask you to change diapers and clean up messes every single day.

This is a child care job; not a teaching job.

Take that into consideration when deciding whether to apply.

  5. I think that unless you are a licensed Japanese nurse/teacher, you cannot/should not be asked to change diapers, prepare lunches, and toilet train students because of liability issues.
I have a few friends (Japanese) that own and operate schools and there are strict rules regarding child care.

  6. Imagine spending tens of thousands of dollars to go to college and get a BA only to move to Japan and change diapers

  7. If this is preschool, then yes…
    Nothing wrong with job description….

Unless you dislike children, which I wonder why you choose this career path, everything is normal…

Depend on your definition of overworked….
    50hr/week is expected
If you want 40hr/week at service related job, good luck….

If this elementary above, nope this isn’t normal

  8. You may not be super busy, but you’re probably going to be there closer to 12 hours a day rather than 8.

If you like spending time with small children, enjoy. If you don’t, you should probably avoid all jobs that center around them.

  9. It’s always fun when companies say something will be “appreciated”. The only way companies can show appreciation is with more money, more holidays, or a positive change in working conditions.

  10. If they ever have to assure you of something in a job description, it is in fact a lie.

  11. Sounds like a part-time gig with lower pay?

Also… sorta sounds creepy TBH. Almost the sorta job that a paedo’s gonna be excited by. I get that childcare involves changing nappies and playing with kids but feel this isn’t the sorta thing anybody ‘wants’ to do.

  12. I taught infant-2/3 year old classes when I was teaching in Japan. I taught for five years. There were *zero* times I had to change a diaper, take a baby to the toilet or prepare food. (I did give them snacks, but almost all of the time the Japanese assistant handled the food.)

  13. This job sounds a lot like what I do on a day to day basis as is.

Minus the diaper stuff. Which I don’t and won’t do. Tho my kids are big enough to do it themselves.
