15-day Itinerary Check: Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Naoshima, Fukuoka, Tokyo

My husband and I are heading to Japan for our honeymoon this Fall. I’ve been to Tokyo and Kyoto before, this will be his first time. We’re in our 30s, love food (all of it), cocktails + coffee, nice hotels + ryokans, music, art, nature, onsens, walking / hiking, manga / anime, antiques and thrifting, and more off-the-beaten path activities (such as a sumo show or trying to eat at all the dessert places in [Sweet Tooth Salaryman](http://look-see-eat.blogspot.com/2018/01/list-of-all-kantaro-sweet-tooth-salaryman-dessert-shops.html), etc) We generally prefer the locals guide vs. heavily trafficked tourist sites. Here’s what we’re thinking of for our itinerary – would love your input!

A few questions:

* Is this in the right order? We’d prefer the train as our primary form of transportation, no flights if possible.
* Are we missing any wonderful places? (Kobe? Hiroshima?)
* Any off-the-beaten path activities that make sense to include?
* Are we staying the right amount of time in each place? As you can see, exploring tokyo is a big priority, but we also want to see as much as possible.
* Are there any other day trips we should be doing from Kyoto?
* Are there any outstanding tours in the 1-3 hour range that you’d recommend at these places? We looked at a lot of airbnb experiences, mostly food related.
* Are we messing up by not going North to Hokkaido?

Thanks in advance – all the tips and advice here have been immensely helpful so far!

  1. No fushimi inari in Kyoto? That’s one of my main reasons for wanting to travel there

  2. If your into coffee for you Harajuku morning stop off at omtaesando first, my opinion some of the best cafes in Tokyo. I always struggle in Japan to find good coffee, it’s improved heaps but Omotesando has some great cafes. Nice area for people in your 30s. Also Shimokitazawa you could easily fit into a couple of hours, but I like that your having a chill trip and not rushing things, it’s a holiday after all.
