Where can I buy old used laptops or PCs at very cheap for the purpose of taking them apart?

I got some free time so I want to take apart and re-build some old laptops or PCs, where can I buy them in Japan? Which physical stores do you recommend? What about the internet? Do they sell them at 2nd hand shops?

  1. hardoff physical shops has *tons* of old junk laptops (think pentium mmx/etc era) in their “junk” section for 1000 yen or less, usually.

If you want something newer, that stuff is in glass cases and has some guarantee of working but costs 10k+

There’s also a netmall (https://netmall.hardoff.co.jp/) but I don’t think they sell a lot of junk there, just working stuff.

Best would checking for locations near you and going to physical shops. Other (non-hardoff) 2nd hand stores might have laptops but it would be hit and miss.

  2. If you look through mercari, try searching with keyword junk ジャンク. You can get cheap electronic stuff there.

  3. Yahoo Auction is the best.
You will find a lot of junk for like 2000yen with little to no competition. Unless it’s Apple.

  4. Look at the smaller second-hand shops in Akihabara (not on the main streets). I’ve seen piles of them for Â¥1000 or even Â¥500 each.
