Since the re-opening of travel to Japan, we have been inundated with posts regarding shopping for specific items in Japan. While /r/Japantravel’s rules specifically forbid posting new threads on individual establishments or services – we have decided to create specific threads for most common questions appearing in posts that got removed, discussion threads or Discord, especially since many of the write-ups that were posted befored COVID-19 hit were no longer up to date.
Today’s topic is: **Shopping for fabric in Japan.**
Feel free to talk about your favourite Nippori Fabric Town spots, or places where you buy best denim or silk fabric.

I personally always love the cloth and clothing stores in various cities that are for Indian cloths in Japan. I have some really nice tablecloths and handkerchiefs that I still use after many years. Tanuki koji in Sapporo had one. Don’t remember the name. But they seemed to have all the same vibe.

– Search Google Maps for any Hard Off/Off House second hand shop near you. Many of them will have a section with kimonos, yukata, obi, and some fabric on sale.
– The ones in the suburbs will have more options. [This one in Hachioji in western Tokyo](https://maps.app.goo.gl/4kHA2pVfik92MJeH7?g_st=ic) has a large section of fabrics/obi/yukata.
– [Flea Markets/Shrine Sales](https://tokyocheapo.com/shopping-2/fashion/top-tokyo-flea-markets/) are excellent spots to buy used kimono, yukata, and obis.
