Please help

I sort of wasted a day today roaming around without really doing much except for eating three ramans and going to a hedgehog cafe!

I am staying in Akihabara and I really want to feel like tomorrow I take advantage of a lot more than I did today.

What do you think I should do? 37f happy to walk.

  1. What do you like?

You could go see some museums in Ueno Park. There’s a neat little one called the Shitamachi Museum that has rooms recreated to be like how life was 100 years ago in that neighborhood. There are other museums in Ueno Park too.

Or you could go to Roppongi Stn and see the contemporary art museums there like the Mori Art Museum and the National Art Center and 21_21 Design Sight.

Or you could take a train out of Tokyo for the day and go see pottery in Mashiko? It’s about a 2hr trip.

What sorts of things are you interested in?

  2. Ueno is a short trip down the Yamanote Line from Akiba. There you can visit Ueno Park, which contains a variety of museums including the Tokyo National Museum (where you can see a wide variety of Japan’s best artworks, including works by Japan’s greatest swordsmiths) and a western art museum, as well as a zoo and Toshogu Shrine (which enshrines the original Tokugawa shogun, Ieyasu).

Ueno is also home to Shinobazu Pond (a great urban park with a variety of wildlife) as well as the Shitamachi Museum, which recreates street scenes, shops, and residences from the Tokyo that existed a century ago.

ETA: the Western Art Museum has one of the three original casts of Rodin’s The Gates of Hell, which is quite the sight to behold.

  3. Hey, it’s the little things that make a trip, I don’t think you wasted the day at all 🙂

But yea figure out what you’re into and do it. Also what hedgehog cafe and was it good?

  4. Hop onto the train, go to Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ueno, maybe Tokyo station, maybe Ginza, maybe Roppongi, maybe something else. Akihabara is a sad, boring place to be unless you are wildly into anime. But even then one gets fed up with it. Start from exploring Tokyo. Or even go to Kanagawa: Kamakura, Yokohama, Enoshima…
