**Nagano? Takayama? Shirakawa-go? Ginzan Osen? Yamagata? Gujo Hachiman? Nagoya? Kyushu?** Just a short list from the research I’ve been doing, any other recommendations would be much appreciated!!!
Traveling with my family (dad, mom, sister). Looking for a place to visit that is calm, serene, filled with japan’s beautiful nature, and also has activities and other fun stuff to experience the area. A place that is like a quieter, less touristy city, but still carries the Japanese charm. **Preferably a place that has good hiking (though not too intense), lots of nature, streams, rivers, lakes, and forests to explore. Onsen’s / Japanese hot springs to visit and go in, ryokan’s (Japanese inn’s) or other hostels, such as Onsen resorts, to spend the night in, places to get warm meals, and in general lots of things to do and experience (hiking, Osens, kayaking, other outdoorsy activities). Definitely do not want to be too “off the grid” to the point where we are basically camping. We are traveling to this place from Tokyo, so it has to be reachable by bullet train/taxi/bus as we won’t have an IDP**
Any suggestions are much appreciated, thank you so much 🙂

u/tapiokuma is there a mistake in my post? Why is it not getting approved?
Want it to be easy to access from Tokyo, onsen, nature and possibility of hiking. I would say Kawaguchiko, Hakone, Izu peninsula and Nikko would be strong contenders.
It’s not that the places you named are totally bad, but most of them are much further, so would take way longer to access, many of them do not have onsen
