Smaller, privately run eikaiwas often have flexible schedules. The place I work at let’s me take any time off I want, I just need to give them 30 days advanced notice.
Avoid the big eikaiwa chains if you want flexibility.
Any school that puts you on a gyomu-itaku contract, such as the one Gaba offers, will have flexible hours. Since you are not an employee, and instead are an independent contractor, you decide which classes to take or not to take.
Advantage: completley flexible schedule at your own discretion.
Disadvantage: no guarantee of a steady income, and if you refuse the work they offer, they may just cross you off their list and you get no more offers at all.
Keep in mind that these contracts are also used so that they are not ever required to give you paid holidays, or pay into your health insurance or pension. You also get taxed differently.
Also be careful. Gaba recently got bought out by Nova so it’s unclear what they’re going to change.
