Obviously that’s a different set than universities but it most definitely can also apply to high schools (see [https://高校偏差値.net](https://高校偏差値.net) ).
There’s such deviation scores for senior and junior high.
All Jr and Sr high schools are ranked. Kaisei is the top or near top ranked high school in Japan.
All high schools and junior high schools have a hensachi and you can find them all easily. Kaisei is absolutely a top-tier school in terms of hensachi.
I teach one kid privately who goes to another prefecture every day for school because of that school’s high hensachi (mid 70s). She is obscenely intelligent.
It’s a statistical technique (think T-score) that can be applied to any set of data similar to things like scores on standardized tests, heights, or speeds.
And you will likely see the different departments in a single high school with different hensachi numbers (tho often not too different). The ‘premier’ departments are likely the ones tied to math/science.
Everything has a hensachi. Convenience stores, family restaurants, drinks from the machine. Anything that can be put in Excel can be hensachied.
Kaisei is *the* most elite boys’ high school in Japan. Just calling it ‘high hensachi’ is an understatement. Almost every student there will enter Tokyo University, Keio University, Waseda University, or medical school.
