Multiple addresses on the residence card?

Hi! I’m planning to rent an apartment in tokyo for two months next week, but I already have an address in Kyoto. I’ve just realised that I’ll need to register the new address onto my residence card.
Does the new address overwrites my old one? Do I need to register again when I move back to Kyoto?
Thanks!

No you don’t. You need to register your primary address, where your juminhyo is registered and where you pay residence tax. You can have all the secondary residences you want.

If you’re only moving temporarily and maintaining the Kyoto address, leave your address in Kyoto.

  2. Are you giving up your flat in Kyoto or is this a temporary move? If you are still “living” in your former address there’s no reason to change. Having multiple residences and working/living in different locations is not uncommon.

What they do though is write the new address in the spaces specifically for that on the back of your residence card.
