Want to move into a detached home in tokyo any recommendations?

Currently me and my wife are living in a 20th floor 2 bedroom apartment, and i think time has come to move out, also i want to own a car but not pay for stupid parking.

since we are both working in shinjyuku places nearby seems like 2億 minimum. What is a good neighbourhood to start looking for a detached home for people who will be working in shinjyuku? Im not that familiar with neighbourhoods.

Thanks for help!

  1. All the major listing sites have a “commute time” search option. There’s no requirements you give that the sites don’t have options for. I don’t really know what type of responses your expecting as you don’t state what you expect from the neighbourhood.

  2. 2千万 seems really really cheap for a detached home near shinjuku. Did you miss a 0?

For a reasonably priced detached home, you have to go out to Mitaka or Machida, both are 20 to 30 minutes out by train.

  3. You looking to buy new or used? I can’t imagine a detached home that’s not practically kissing the neighbor’s house for anything less than 5000万 in Tokyo. Heck, I’ve seen prebuilt detached houses in my “countryside” town for over ¥4000万. Thank goodness I bought mine when I did. I paid like ¥2700万 a decade ago.

  4. You want to buy a house under ¥20 million yen?
There are over 20 houses for that price in Nerima Ward, as well as a handful of places in Setagaya and Suginami wards, but the later are likely to be “unrebuildable” places. You should have an agent guiding you if you want to purchase something so cheap. The risks are higher at that price range.

  5. which stations are you looking that’s giving you 2億 ? houses shouldn’t cost anywhere close to this number, there aren’t any super upscale single family house neighborhoods near shinjuku

  6. Somewhere down Odakyu line if you’re working in Shinjuku. The further you go the cheaper and larger it will get.

  7. I suggest Toyoko line as it connects to Fukutoshin line, so direct connection to Shinjuku sanchome. Nakameguro and Jiyugaoka are two big names but if the prices in those neighborhoods are still too expensive, then anywhere in between is fine.

  8. Nerima is on Oedo. It’s not a well-known area (not a sexy spot) but it’s 18 mins from Shinjuku, 10 minutes from Ikebukuro, and very livable. As you get further into Nerima, the houses are going to be more and more reasonable and will be w/in 25 mins of Shunjuku.

If you have kids, the healthcare is 100% free and the daycare may be free (depends on income).

  9. What’s your budget? And what size place do you require?

I can say, somewhere in muasashino that’s a hike from the station will be better for your mental health than commuting in from Hachioji!

  10. Check out the Keio Liner or Odakyu Romance Car for reserved seat limited express into Shinjuku. Then pick one of the appropriate stations within the timeframe you desire.
Areas like Hachioji, Tama or Machida can easily find detached houses.

  11. Anything along the Chuo line, or anything along the Keio line. No transfers to Shinjuku. There’s a lot of affordable neighborhoods in West Tokyo, especially if you don’t mind being further from a station.
