Itinerary check – May 26 to June 4, 2023

This is our rough itinerary for our belated honeymoon. We don’t want to stress ourselves out too much trying to stick to a set schedule as we will likely get lost at times trying to navigate our way. We’d like to try a lot of different foods, so any restaurant ideas in these locations are very welcome (we’d love to try some Kobe beef too). We also enjoy video games, anime, and techy things.

**May 26** \-

* Land in Tokyo at 15:00, get JR pass, Suica cards, and pocket wifi
* Take NEX to the hotel in the Tokyo Station area
* If we’re not totally exhausted, wander around the area and find some food

**May 27** \-

* Take the Shinkansen to Osaka
* Check in to the hotel near Shin-Osaka (better hotel price, easier for dealing with luggage, and we plan to take a day trip to Kyoto)
* We’ll have the late afternoon/evening free, so maybe Osaka Aquarium

**May 28** \-

* Osaka Aquarium (if not the night before)
* Osaka Castle
* Dotonbori
* Guided food tour

**May 29** \-

* Day trip to Nara to see deer and temples

**May 30** \-

* Day trip to Kyoto on the Shinkansen
* Arashiyama
* Fushimi Inari
* Gion
* Or a guided [tour](https://www.getyourguide.com/kyoto-l96826/kyoto-top-highlights-full-day-trip-t293665/). The tour might be a better use of our time.

**May 31** \-

* Head back to Tokyo on the Shinkansen
* Check into the hotel in Shibuya and wander Shibuya
* Shibuya Sky at sunset (we hear this is nice)

**June 1** \-

* Walk around Shibuya/Harajuku
* Meiji Jingu Shrine
* Yoyogi park
* Shibuya foodie tour

**June 2** \-

* Akihabara and area (maybe Imperial Palace, Ueno, Senso-ji)

**June 3** \-

* Maybe teamLab Planets
* Welcome to suggestions

**June 4** \-

* Check out of the hotel, and take NEX to the airport.

We are planning to get the 7-day Japan rail pass, and each a Suica card for the non-JR lines (or ICOCA if it makes more sense to get it when we’re in Osaka). I think the Japan rail pass would be worth it as we’d be using it to go from Tokyo Narita (NEX) -> Tokyo Station -> Osaka -> Kyoto -> Osaka -> Tokyo. We’ll have to buy NEX tickets to go back to the airport since our 7 days will be up by then.

Are taking taxis fairly simple and affordable too? I think we’d utilize this option in some situations if so. For example, Osaka Castle to Dotonburi is 50 minutes on the subway or 12 minutes by car (according to Google Maps).

Any other suggestions for places to visit are welcome too. There are so many, and it’s hard to decide!

Staying in Shin Osaka sounds good on paper, but I’m not sure if we’ll ultimately regret not staying in Namba. We’re choosing Osaka because we heard it’s great for restaurants. We aren’t big on nightlife anymore, so being able to stay out late isn’t really a big deal for us, and taking a short subway ride doesn’t sound too inconvenient either.

Thank you for the help!
