Tozen Union Issues Shunto Demands to Interac

Merry Christmas! Today we, the Tokyo General Union, issued eight Shunto (Spring Offensive) demands to Interac.

Some of the highlights include a demand that Interac companies run a proper, objective Employee Representative election in accordance with labor standards law. We also demanded that our new member, a Consulting Head Teacher working in Shinagawa, be paid an extra 84,672 yen per month (with backpay to April 2022) to compensate him for the extra hours that Interac tacked onto his contract. Can you believe that Interac changed his weekly working hours from 29.5 to 40 with no extra compensation?

Another demand highlight is a daily allowance for teachers that are scheduled to work from home. Interac expects some employees to use their own electricity, Internet, and computer hardware to do company work with zero compensation. Are they kidding?

One last highlight is a demand contesting a so-called Guided Improvement Plan unfairly issued to one of our members from Interac North. The company uses these GIPs as tools of intimidation. We won’t stand for it, and neither should you. Interac Sisters and Brothers, join us. We need you to help make Interac a better company for everyone.

Yes I very much can. Was this a unilateral change? What actually happened here?

Sadly this seems far too common. Do they not even pay an equivalent to transportation costs in lieu? Ugh.

May I ask what was unfair with regards to the plan?

  2. People who are already in Japan should stop working for dispatch companies. There are plenty of direct hire jobs now, so there isn’t really any reason to continue supporting that.

  3. I can live with the shitty job as long as they start increasing the wage in line with the cost of living. I joined over ten years ago and have never seen a wage rise, while consumption tax has continued to rise as with the cost of living.

  4. Isn’t the 29.5 to 40 hr change with no wage increase really common with the addition of Shakai Hoken in the new contract? When I signed on in 2020 we were all paid the same monthly wage, with the exception that the 29.5hr didn’t have Shakai Hoken while the 40hr contract did.
