Flying internationally during golden week

I’m thinking about going back home to the US during golden week this year. I imagine a lot of people are planning on traveling during golden week, so I wonder if prices are going to keep rising the longer I wait, or if it may dip back down. Does anyone have any experience with buying plane tickets for golden week and know when the best time to buy them are?

Edit: thanks everyone, just booked my flight. It was still higher than average, but I don’t see the situation improving anytime soon so just went for it.

  1. With Golden Week less than 3 months away, it’s not going to go down unless you get very lucky.

  2. Even if you book early ticket prices during the peak holiday travel periods are always higher.

  3. Book now if you decide to go.

Golden week is a huge fucking scam. Its even more expensive than doing stuff in the new year. Utterly ridiculous. Even shitty decrepit little minshuku will charge like ¥20k per person in golden week instead of their usual ¥6000.
Traffic is fucking horrendous and forget about coming a day early or even 2, as lots of people do that too so its still bad. Even hiking on remote mountains is crowded.
Then the actual destinations are so rammed it just sucks the fun out of it. Massive scam, and this year absolutely everyone will be travelling like normal again.

I think you are better off just relaxing close to home in golden week.

  4. Had an eye on flights to Seattle for around that time too… prices went up by 400bucks like 2 weeks ago, so I may have missed the boat.

Based on experience from flying the same last year, prices might come down slightly, but not back to levels from early Jan
