About breaks in Japan. It is my understanding that if you work over 6 hours you are entitled to a 45 minute break. I work 9 hours and receive a 1 hour break. (So 8 hours of work time) This is fine but the break I receive comes an hour after my shift starts. Therefore I have 7 hours of work with no break. Is this acceptable within the confines of Japanese Labour law?

労働基準法第34条1項において、休憩が労働時間の途中に与えられるべきことが規定されています。
そのため、たとえば労働者が8時間労働をおこなう場合、8時間の間に60分の休憩を挟むことが必要です。
8時間連続で労働したあとに60分の休憩時間を与える、もしくは労働前に60分の休憩を与えてから8時間連続で働いてもらう、といったことは法律違反とみなされます。
