Help arranging Tokyo/Kyoto activities?

Hi all!

Maybe because I’ve been staring at it for too long but I’m struggling with the optimal timing of these events and could use some help.

In particular if we should try to do the outer market one day sooner, or the Fushimi Inari Shrine (or Higashiyama walking) one day later, or if it is fine as is?

* **Day 3) Tokyo**:
* Harajuku (walk Takeshita Dori, eat at a themed restaurant in Omotesando, shop kiddy Land)
* Akihabara
* Shibuya (walk Spain Slope, shop Loft, shop Center Gai after sunset)
* **Day 4) Tokyo – Kyoto**
* Tsukiji outer market
* Train to Kyoto
* Tenjin-san Flea Market (fixed to this date)
* Higashiyama District (walking)
* Fushimi Inari Shrine
* **Day 5) Kyoto**
* Nishiki Market
* Gion
* Pontocho Alley
* Additional experience (possibly archery)

Any guidance or advice is appreciated!

  1. In Kyoto, recommend seeing the Golden Temple (Kinkaku-ji) very cool grounds and pretty touristy but we enjoyed it. And if you have time we really enjoyed Nanzen-ji Temple, it was mostly free and had a lot of nice grounds to walk. Nishiki had lots of shops as well.

    Additional activity? Attending a tea ceremony was really unique and special to Kyoto.

    Arashiyama had a nice bamboo forest area right by Tenryu-ji temple, lots of walking trails, also the monkey park right across the river! (Bit of a hike up the hill 20min) I saw like 30-40 macaques running around and got to feed them apples!

  2. Definitely move Fushimi Inari shrine to early on day 5. Higashiyama is a place where you can spend as much and as little time as you like, but I’d recommend taking a bit more time here and enjoy lots of small and medium sized temples and shrines around every corner. Higashiyama can be combined with Kyomizudera. Fushimi Inari is a bit further south so it makes sense to leave this for the next morning. You day 5 schedule looks not too full yet. I think you can still do all the things you wrote down there plus Fushimi Inari.

  3. Day 3, you can walk from Harajuku to Shibuya.Akihabara make no sense in the middle.

    Day 4, I think that Fushimi Inari-taisha should be moved next day as it is not exactly in the same area as the flea market.

    And if you want to be in Kyoto for lunch, yes maybe move market morning of day2 for breakfast as stores in Harajuku usually won’t open before 10-11am

  4. Day 3 and day 4, 100% not enough time.
    I know that because I’m in Kyoto right now, and I was yesterday in Gion and Higashiyama. Two days ago I was in Shibuya.
    Higashiyama and Gion are near each other, and You can go see the Kiyomizu-dera temple

  5. Hi Everyone,

    I am going to Japan in April and my Wife and I want to do a Omakase experience. How hard is it to get an Omakase experience? | booked one online but my credit card declined it since it did not recognize it.

    Should we just wait and have our hotel book it for us when we’re there? I’m afraid we won’t be able to get in.

    Thank you all in advance for your answers!
