Tax Question

Hello, a quick question. I now live in Japan now and moved at the end of 2021. I was wondering how I file Canadian taxes. I did not work in Canada in 2022 only Japan. I usually use turbo tax to file. Is there an easy way to do this?

  1. **Mail** in a paper return – a blank 2022 T1 declaring non-residency (date you left Canada) and don’t file again until you’re back. Do this to avoid paying Canadian taxes on foreign income as a non-resident.

Technically you should’ve declared non-residency for the tax year you left (i.e. 2021 taxes). But a blank 2022 should work too.
