Which companies are the good ones?

Basically, there seems to be an issue with a lot of the eikaiwas and ALT dispatch companies. Everyone seems to be speaking negatively about them. Which are the good ones? Are there any good ones?

  1. A lot of people shit on Interac but i’ve never had any problems with them. Salary is alright for dispatch ALT work and staff are all friendly.

  2. How do you define “good”? What is your criteria, exactly? Do you care about pay, fairness in the treatment of employees, high standards of teaching, opportunities to grow your skills and advance, adherence to labor laws, good benefits, and yearly bonuses?

Or do you only care that they bring you to Japan with a minimum of fuss and give you the least amount of work to do so that you don’t have to take work seriously and can just have a good time?

Because you can’t really have both of those. Both eikaiwa and ALT companies pay shite and treat employees like shite, and have very low standards and zero chance to advance. But if your goal is the second, then it really doesn’t matter which company you come with, since they all pretty much are the same.

Although I have seen ALTs brag numerous times that they barely work, and spend most of their time in the teacher’s room making flash cards or studying Japanese, so that may be more attractive than eikaiwa, which expects 8 lessons a day and working on weekends.

But for good pay, high teaching standards, and fairness of treatment? Japan isn’t the place to come.

And yeah, you are being lazy because there are numerous posts you could read here that would tell you exactly what I’m telling you now. So be grateful I took time out of my afternoon to retype all the same shit I’ve been typing over and over again since joining this sub. You’re welcome.

  3. From what I have heard Interac are probably the best of the ALT dispatch companies, but that doesnt mean much.

In the past Ive heard working at Shane English school (eikaiwa) is ok, but I dont know anyone who has worked there recently. I have heard nothing positive about the 4-letter Eikaiwas.

  4. NOVA pay poverty level wages, ECC is in the pitts. Of the two ECC is by the worst to work at, like explotively and abusively bad day to day but they pay more and have more holidays.

  5. Realistically none of them. But Altia Central seems to be the best paying and generally best quality dispatch ALT company and ECC seems to be the best for dispatch eikaiwa.

  6. The best companies are normally private schools, whether ekaiwas or actual schools. You can normally be your own teacher. But, you are rolling the dice there as well. May be an amazing school or be a horrible school.

  7. No ALT dispatch company is good. Come on JET or don’t come at all. Some direct hire positions are alright, but they almost always (maybe always?) hire from within the country. I don’t know as much about eikaiwa jobs, but I’ve heard about 90% bad things from people who have had them, so I wouldn’t recommend that either.

  8. The difference in pay is the difference between treating yourself to an L-chiki and a strong zero for dinner versus a bento and a beer on the weekends.
