  1. Ok maybe he is living completely different world so he can not get how intense child care is. But he is fucking PM right? Doesn’t this guy have any advisor?

  2. Isn’t the point of maternity and child care leave … child care? Does he not think before he speaks? He needs to run these thought bubbles before a team of advisors before running his uninformed mouth off in public

  3. He hasn’t lived with his wife for most of their marriage. Far from knowing about child-care, I would be surprised if he knows her favorite color or ice-cream flavor. That won’t stop him from having an opinion on the matter, of course…

  4. Politicians living a cushy life and being completely disconnected from reality?

    No way!

  5. In Japan, if a prime minister is unpopular, he can use it as an excuse to step down and allow a crony to take the wheel. Perhaps he’s not looking for tenure.

  6. I don’t see what all the negativity is. If somebody wants to study on the side and they have the options, more power to them.

  7. He might have been attempting to “think outside the box” and now he is shot down. We should be encouraging outside the box thinking because otherwise everyone is too afraid to speak and voice their ideas.

  8. What is with the negative reception to this? Looking at the quote it seems to be a genuine suggestion to help women who suffer from career stagnation because of child care leave.

A lot of women come out of child care and have no choice but to take low paying jobs, jobs that may well be automated one day or simply get stuck part time worker part time house wife.

I have no issue with women who choose to be full time housewives, I know plenty that love it and slend a little too much money shopping everyday but not every household has that kind of funds. With the tightening of economies it would be good to give women more avenues to independence and self sufficiency.

  9. As someone who had a baby five months ago.. does he even realize how long it takes to physically recover from child birth? Or how long it takes for babies to start sleeping through the night, so you can get some sleep too? I had no free time at all for the first months of the baby’s life – I still don’t have much time to myself. Unless he offers to get them a babysitter, I don’t see when he expects parents to be “reskilling”.
